Technical Background Smart building, also known as building automation is the goal that Building Automation System ( BAS) attempts to achieve. For many government agencies and multinational corporates, smart building is invaluable as it will help them to save energy, conserve water consumption, and improve building' s overall condition in the long run. One particular government agency was in need to have additional feature of room occupancy monitoring as well as critical facilities monitoring in addition to monitoring energy and water consumption. This monitoring will need to be done from a centralized system overseeing nine different levels within a building. Implemented Solutions As one of the key purposes of this system is to have a comprehensive reports of the energy usage as well as the room occupancy, the system provides users with detailed and informative calculation of energy usage and rooms' usage daily, monthly and yearly. Here are the overall specifications of the installed system: 1) As the system will need to monitor room occupancy, it needs to interact with motion sensor that has been placed on every room. The system is able to extract data from this motion sensor and justify the live occupancy status of that room as well as the usage duration. 2) Along side the motion sensor, the system is also able to communicate with various digital sensor ( temperature, humidity and water detection sensor) to inform user upon any critical alerts that needs to be attended fast. Alert notification will be done via SMS and or email. 3) As the monitoring is being done for 9 different levels, the system has the capability to collect the information from each floor or even particular distribution boards and ultimately calculate this for users' review and planning 4) Flexibility is also the key point for this system as it' s expandable to cater for future expansion of the building. Benefits After Implementation 1) With the room occupancy monitoring, room booking management can be done more effectively. 2) The system allows Facility Manager ( FM) to closely monitor the energy consumption in a very detailed manner; this means each level' s or each DB' s consumption is able to be extracted from the centralized system. 3) Faster response time to troubleshoot critical alert such as water leakage 4) Improve operations efficiency and uptime by remotely configuring phone numbers from a centralized system. 5) System will also be able to cater for future needs to monitor additional equipments.
