Detail Power Usage Monitoring System - MCONEX
Technical Background
The need to have an energy efficient buildings has been increasing in the recent years. This is emphasized
by companies and government sectors that are highlighting the importance of saving energy as an effort to
sustaining the environment. Companies that are in-line with this ideology would require their facility
managers to monitor the energy usage to make sure that they are consuming energy efficiently. Monitoring
power consumption can be done in few ways, one of these ways would be to extract the power
consumption reading from the power meter and translate this into a meaningful format to the system users.
Implemented Solutions
To monitor power usage effectiveness in a building, the implemented system comes with these
following specifications and capabilities:
1) A smart system that can translate the reading from a power meter to a meaningful and
quantifiable figures in graphical as well as numerical format.
2) In addition to the power usage monitoring, the system is also capable to monitor critical facilities
and send out necessary alert upon any alarm state.
3) Historical data trending is also provided by the system to improve on future planning and
analysis.
The designed solution was installed to monitor the energy usage and efficiency ( daily, monthly or
yearly) as well as to monitor critical facilities within the building’ s premise ( i.e. UPS, temperature,
water leak, smoke detectors, fire alarm and so on) . The system panel is also equipped with a LCD
screen showing the live status of each input.
Benefits After Implementation
1) The facility manager would now have the capability to monitor power usage effectiveness ( PUE) that will help the company to have a better energy usage practice.
2) With the information provided by the system, adjustment of energy usage can be made and will result in decreasing unnecessary energy consumption.
3) With this energy monitoring system, organizations will be able to comply with the green mark requirements.
4) The system is also helping facility manager to be notified upon any critical alert happened on their premises.
